Engineering and Technology for
Smart Bangladesh

Under the leadership of Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh is set to lay the firm history in bringing modern information, digital technology, and platforms to every doorstep in ngladesh. Building on the success of the government's Vision 2021, a "Digital Bangladesh," and going towards the developed world, the manifesto to build a "Smart Bangladesh" by 2041 is well-timed and intriguing. Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's commitment to building a Smart Bangladesh has been widely recognized domestically and internationally. The country has been praised for its progress in digital transformation and has become a model for other developing countries seeking to leverage technology for development.

Owing to steps taken by the government, Bangladesh has experienced growing economy, rapid urbanization, and industrialization. Growing industrialization and economic activities have maintained Bangladesh's stable GDP growth. Vision 2021, announced by Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to make Bangladesh a middle-income country by 2021, has been achieved vividly. A few remarkable mega projects culminating in our basement mega infrastructure, electricity availability and ancillary infrastructure, have ensured sustainability. Through this path, future Bangladesh will be Smart Bangladesh based on the four basic pillars of Smart Citizens, Smart Government, Smart Society, and Smart Economy. Every citizen of the country will be efficient in using technology, all transactions and the economy will be technology-dependent, all government facilities and activities will be accessible everywhere, and our entire society will be technology-friendly.

The citizens of the country are further excited with new hopes and aspirations due to various preparatory activities and multifaceted practical activities of the government. Earlier, in the keynote address delivered at the World Congress on Information Technology Ministerial Conference on November 11, 2021, Mr. Sajib Wazed Joy, Adviser to the Prime Minister on ICT affairs, urged everyone to work together to lead the way for the fourth industrial revolution. However, becoming "smart" principally means concentrating more on data-centric design and human experience rather than automation and digitization. ICT will certainly play a pivotal role in achieving the Smart Bangladesh Vision.

Government projects aim to scale up the current infrastructure and introduce new technologies in all engineering and business management areas. At the 61st Convention, the seminars and activities will allow us to understand the need for today's emerging world and motivate engineers to take the challenges with technologically well-equipped initiatives to materialize the dream of Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Smart Bangladesh.

The 61st IEB Convention is set to "Engineering and Technology for Smart Bangladesh" and the theme of the National Seminar is set to "The Engineers for Transforming Technology driven Smart Bangladesh".
